HOLIDAY WITH THE OLD FOLKS (NZ)

My parents decided to take the opportunity to come over here and be guided by us through the North Island of New Zealand. We started in Coromandel and went to places like Hot Water Beach, Cathedral Cove and Broken Hills.

We carried on to Rotarua where we visited Wai-o-Tapu, Rainbow Springs and the Redwood Forest.

Our next destination was Taupo. We saw the Aratiatia Rapids, Maori Rock Carvings and Phil did his sky dive from 12.000 ft. We also hiked along a wonderful river walk to the Huka Falls and we soaked our self in a hot stream on our way back.

The Tongariro Crossing in the Tongariro National Park is one of the best known day hikes on the North Island. We found the transport fees for drop off and pick up where quite costly therefore we decided to hike half of the crossing as a return trip. We stayed in Whakapapa for a couple of nights in a beautiful chalet with an amazing few of Mt Nguarahoe.

We discoved the area around Waitomo Caves which cost us a new pair of breaks and a break disk. No garage for miles and Philip decided to get parts only on the way to fix the car at home. After spending an unexpected night in Auckland we headed further north for the last part of our holiday.

We drove over Kawakawa with the famous Hundertwasser public toilet, made a stopover in Paihia and carried on all the way to Cape Reinga. We drove back on the west cost through the Kauri Forest and stayed for a night on Baylys beach before we headed back into Auckland.
